![]() Description | Events Calendar | Documents | Past Documents | Member List Animal Services Committee - Description The Committee’s primary purpose is to advise the Public Safety Policy Committee and the COG Board of Directors on matters pertaining to animal care and control issues. Areas of responsibility shall include, but may not be limited to, animal care and control, wildlife, disaster planning, public service information, humane education, and dangerous animals. The Committee shall be responsible for developing and presenting to the Board for action all reports, policy statements, recommendations and proposals relevant to animal care and control. A secondary purpose is for members of the Committee to meet and exchange information and ideas concerning the delivery of animal care and control services and other matters of mutual concern.
The Animal Services Committee appoints Subcommittees to develop regional policies, plans, agreements, and programs. The Chair of the respective Subcommittees may invite representation from federal, state, regional, and local units, and private citizens relevant to their functional interest, with input from the Committee and other Subcommittee members. SUBCOMMITTEES Living With Wildlife: This Subcommittee consists of jurisdictional animal services representatives, representatives of federal, state, regional and local units, and private citizens (by invitation) and addresses wildlife-related issues, with a focus on the safety and co-existence of humans and wildlife in the NCR. The Subcommittee is responsible for developing and presenting for action all reports, policy statements, recommendations and proposals relevant to wildlife in the Region. Through mutual cooperation, information sharing and problem-solving on wildlife and related matters of mutual concern, "humane model" policies are promoted, enabling delivery of humane and effective wildlife services and fostering of community education about wildlife. Spay/Neuter: This Subcommittee consists of jurisdictional animal services representatives, representatives of federal, state, regional and local units, and private citizens (by invitation) and addresses pet overpopulation and euthanasia of companion animals and other issues related to spay/neuter in the Region. The committee is responsible for developing and presenting for action all reports, policy statements, recommendations and proposals relevant to spay/neuter as the solution to pet overpopulation in the NCR. It also allows an opportunity to enhance mutual cooperation, information sharing and joint problem-solving concerning the delivery of spay/neuter services. Humane Education and Public Relations:
