TPB Access for All Advisory Committee - Description

 

The Access for All (AFA) Advisory Committee advises the TPB on transportation issues, programs, policies, and services that are important to low-income communities, minority communities and people with disabilities. The mission of this committee is to identify concerns of low-income and minority populations and persons with disabilities, and to determine whether and how these issues might be addressed within the TPB process.

Current Issues and Activities

  • The AFA sent a le tter to the WMATA Board with Recommendations Regarding the Proposed FY2011 MetroAccess Budget
  • The AFA participated in the TPB's Independant Review of MetroAccess (click here for the fi nal report, 1.6 MB).
  • The AFA is actively participating TPB's Human Service Transportation Coordination efforts
  • The TPB endorsed an AFA rep ort (1.2 MB) on recommendations for improving transit information for limited English speakers on May 16, 2007.
  • Recommendations for addressing transportation issues of low-income populations were developed by an AFA subcommittee, chaired by Brenda Richardson. A rep ort (2.3 MB) on these issues and recommendations is available, and details disparities between the eastern and western sides of the region.
  • A review of potential impacts of the long-range transportation plan on low-income and minority communities (the fin al report, 2.8 MB)

Membership

The committee membership is composed of community leaders from around the region. The committee also includes ex-officio representation from five key transportation agencies that are active in the TPB process— the District Department of Transportation, the Maryland Department of Transportation, the Virginia Department of Transportation, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, the Federal Transit Administration and the Federal Highway Administration .
