CFLs offer extended life and energy efficiency compared to traditional incandescent bulbs. Because the bulb contain a small amount of mercury, it is best to recycle them instead of placing them in the regular trash.

A few retail stores are offering CFL recycling including:
Local Government Recycling Programs
Local governments accept CFLs at their periodic household hazardous waste (HHW) collection events or permanent HHW drop off sites. Some have special information about the bulbs.
