Climate, Energy and Environment Policy Committee - Description

The Climate, Energy and Environment Policy Committee (CEEPC) was created by the COG Board on April 8, 2009 through Resolution R18-09 as its principal policy adviser on climate change, energy, green building, alternate fuels, solid waste and recycling policy issues, and other environmental issues as the Board may assign.  The CEEPC is responsible for managing implementation of the COG Climate Change Report adopted by the COG Board on November 12, 2008.  This responsibility includes development of a regional climate change strategy to meet the regional greenhouse gas reduction goals adopted by the Board.  

Membership on the CEEPC includes representatives from COG’s 22 member governments, state environmental, energy, and transportation agencies, state legislatures, the Air and Climate Public Advisory Committee, federal and regional agencies, electric and gas utilities, environmental organizations, business organizations, and members of the academic community.  CEEPC annually seeks to fill membership openings on the committee.  Visit the online application page for more info.

The CEEPC will collaborate closely with other COG policy boards and committees including the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB), Metropolitan Washington Air Quality Committee (MWAQC), Chesapeake Bay and Water Resources Policy Committee (CBPC), Region Forward Coalition, and the Human Services and Public Safety Policy Committee.

The CEEPC will be assisted by a series of technical committees, workgroups, and advisory committees including COG’s Built Environment and Energy Advisory Committee, Recycling Committee, Solid Waste Managers, Streetlight Working Group, Clean Air Partners, Water Resources Technical Committee, MWAQC Technical Advisory Committee, TPB Technical Committee, Planning Directors Technical Advisory Committee, and MWAQC’s Air and Climate Public Advisory Committee.  It also received input from the recently formed Climate Adaptation Workgroup.
