Metropolitan Washington Regional Activity CentersAt the request of the Transportation Planning Board (TPB), COG's Planning Directors Technical Advisory Committee (PDTAC) developed the initial Regional Activity Centers between January and July of 1999. The current set of 6 revised Activity Centers maps are based upon COG's Round 6.1 Cooperative Forecasts -- the adopted growth projections for the COG member jurisdictions and the Constrained Long Range Transportation Plan. It is hoped that the maps and tables may be used by area governments to encourage land use and transportation policies that promote more concentrated regional growth patterns and trends. They do not preclude development, but encourage "smarter" development by attempting to inform coordinated transportation and land use decision-making. The maps may also be used to help focus on revitalization areas and provide a tool for local governments to evaluate current and future plans and adjust policies accordingly.
You may download or purchase the report from COG's online Publications. Disclaimer: The maps and data tables have been collected and published in a high quality tabloid sized report. The maps are detailed and complex and may not be accurately reproduced at the 8.5x11 page-size standard to most desktop printers.
