Metropolitan Washington Health Indicators ReportGood health for individuals and communities depends not only on health care for the sick but on opportunities to prevent health problems and improve basic health and well-being. To assess the health of the Washington area from a health promotion and disease prevention perspective, the Metropolitan Washington Public Health Assessment Center has worked with the state and local health departments in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia; the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments; and the National Center for Health Statistics of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to assemble data on 29 indicators for nine jurisdictions in the region. Organized using the Leading Health Indicators from Healthy People 2010, the national health promotion and disease prevention agenda, these indicators cover 10 key public health concerns. You may download the report from COG's online Publications.
