Families Like Yours

families like yours

Families Like Yours focuses on recruiting, recognizing, and retaining foster parents to care for abused and neglected children in the D.C. Region. The campaign is a program of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments that partners with local and state child welfare agencies in and around the nation’s capital to recognize the region’s Foster Parents of the Year on an annual basis.

At a moment’s notice, foster parents receive abused and neglected children for an unspecified number of weeks, months, and years. By opening their homes and hearts, foster parents play a vital role in helping children and families in crisis heal. COG partners with Bravo Film and Video each year to produce short-form documentaries (see below) to recognize outstanding foster parents, and promotes the videoes online to recruit more parents. This important work must be sustained through private donations.  If you are interested in making a tax-deductible donation to ensure we have a strong cadre of loving foster parents for abused and neglected children, please call the Program Manager at 202-962-3264.
