Work of Heart Respite Services
for CFSA Foster Parents

As with all parents, foster parents need a break every now and then, too. Often these breaks can be the difference between a successful foster care placement and one that ends in another move for the child. If you are a CFSA foster parent, consider giving yourself a break with Work of Heart on your side!

The following free respite services are available through Work of Heart :

Enrichment Respite: All-day childcare sites in DC and Maryland are available on Saturdays. The enrichment activities include field trips, arts & crafts, and workshops on personal growth & development. Detailed program information and locations are available at the Foster and Adoptive Parent Advocacy Center (FAPAC) website.

Super Saturday Respite: Monthly Drop-off day one Saturday a month from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Children are supervised by licensed “Work of Heart” staff and volunteers. Monthly registration is required.

Overnight Respite : Once monthly overnight weekend respite in the home of a licensed Work of Heart Respite Parent.

  • Work of Heart Volunteer Respite Parents are licensed foster parents. They have completed training and other licensing requirements similar to those of traditional foster care parents. They provide respite care in their home giving the foster parent and child a much-needed break.

To access respite care services, please download here: Preliminary Work of Heart Application for Respite. Please print and complete this form and follow submission instructions. Click the link or right click and choose “Save Target As.”
