On April 11, 1957, more than forty public officials from the District of Columbia, suburban Maryland, and Northern Virginia met in the District Building to discuss issues of mutual concern and opportunities for regional collaboration. It was the first meeting of the Washington Metropolitan Regional Conference, which later became the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, or COG.
In April 2017, COG is celebrating 60 years as the hub of regional partnership. Together, with its member governments, partners, and staff, COG has helped shape strong communities and a better region.
Join in the celebration on Twitter at #COG60th, where COG will highlight its current work, future goals, and past accomplishments, or access more COG history at the links to the right.
