| You are invited to attend a 2-part interactive Risk Communication Workshop and Exercise, facilitated by the world's premier risk communications specialist Dr. Vincent Covello. Dr. Covello will provide risk communication training using his "message mapping" technique, which is based on 30 years of research and experience in responding to disasters and emergencies. Dr. Covello's interactive and engaging style has proven enormously successful with high level executives and others who must communicate critical information in high stress, emotionally charged situations. Examples of how this training has been applied by public officials include Mayor Giuliani after 9/11, the London subway bombing, and the recent British airline threat. Who should attend: - Water utility professionals - Electric utility professionals - Transportation officials - Public Information professionals - Health officials - Emergency Managers - Public safety officials (police, fire) To participate in the exercise, you must have attended the training on 9/26. During the 1/2 day exercise, you will have an opportunity to practice applying the message mapping techniques to scenarios that could affect NCR water and public health sectors. All sessions will be held in the COG Training Center. There is no cost to attend but an RSVP is required. Lunch and snacks will be provided. Space is limited to only 35 participants in each session. Risk Communication Training Workshop:
Tuesday, September 26 – 9 am to 5 pm.
This day will cover message mapping techniques for reaching target audiences with a well-defined, succinct message. Practitioners from a variety of fields including water, public information, health, and emergency management will be participating.
Risk Communication Exercise:
Thursday, September 28 – 9 am to 12 pm. Lunch provided afterwards.
During the ½ day exercise, you will have an opportunity to practice applying the message mapping techniques to scenarios that could affect NCR water and public health sectors. You must have attended the training on September 26 to participate in the Exercise.
