The Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs is starting a new project to fight foreclosure rescue and loan modification scams in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The project will provide representation to foreclosure rescue and loan modification scam victims through affirmative suits seeking to recover monetary damages, injunctive relief, and/or, where possible, title to rescue scam victims’ homes. This session will provide an introduction to the Washington Lawyer’s Committee’s Scam Initiative, provide an overview of the current trends in scam activity, and offer opportunities for partnership and collaboration.
