COG Video Series: Collaboration in Action

Introducing Collaboration in Action, COG's video series hosted by Executive Director Clark Mercer. The series spotlights COG's work with member jurisdictions and private, nonprofit, and civic organizations on a wide variety of programs and initiatives that improve the quality of life for everyone in our DMV region. Come along as Clark takes you behind the scenes of several of our initiatives, spreading the word about the value of regional partnership and highlighting the leaders and experts in our network that are making a positive impact in our communities.

COG Podcast
Prior to Collaboration in Action, COG produced a podcast, Think Regionally, to raise awareness about metropolitan Washington's biggest challenges and focus on solutions. The podcast, which was hosted by former Washington Post columnist Robert McCartney, featured local government, business, and non-profit leaders talking about a variety of timely topics, including the region's economy, racial equity, transportation, housing, and climate change.

The February TPB meeting featured a presentation on initial findings from the Visualize 2045 Voices of the Region public opinion survey. Also at the meeting, the board received briefings on the budget and workplan for the TPB and for Commuter Connections.

At its January meeting the TPB approved new members for the Community Advisory Committee. It also received briefings on a multi-sectoral study of the impacts Covid-19 has had on the region and on the Unified Planning and Work Program. 2021 TPB Chair Charles Allen presided over the first meeting of 2021.

The TPB is soliciting project ideas to receive technical assistance through the Transportation Land-use Connections program (TLC). New this year, the TLC program is adding selection criteria to reflect the TPB approved National Capital Trail Network map and focus on improving walking and biking to transit in Transit Access Focus Areas.

At its December meeting, the TPB elected its 2021 officers and acknowledged the outstanding service outgoing members have provided to the region. The board also approved the set of roadway Safety Targets for the region required by federal law. And approved the Visualize 2045 Technical Input Solicitation to formally kick-off the process to update the long-range transportation plan.

2020 has been a momentous year for everyone. For the TPB, it has been a year of challenges and some big accomplishments. From going completely virtual to embarking on new work on equity and safety to finishing the Regional Travel Survey, to kicking off its long-range transportation plan, the TPB had a busy year.
