Introducing Collaboration in Action, COG's video series hosted by Executive Director Clark Mercer. The series spotlights COG's work with member jurisdictions and private, nonprofit, and civic organizations on a wide variety of programs and initiatives that improve the quality of life for everyone in our DMV region. Come along as Clark takes you behind the scenes of several of our initiatives, spreading the word about the value of regional partnership and highlighting the leaders and experts in our network that are making a positive impact in our communities.

COG Podcast

Prior to Collaboration in Action, COG produced a podcast, Think Regionally, to raise awareness about metropolitan Washington's biggest challenges and focus on solutions. The podcast, which was hosted by former Washington Post columnist Robert McCartney, featured local government, business, and non-profit leaders talking about a variety of timely topics, including the region's economy, racial equity, transportation, housing, and climate change.

2025 ozone data shows continued progress in regional air quality

The metropolitan Washington region experienced five “Code Orange” unhealthy air days in 2025, a decrease from seven days in 2024, according to data collected as part of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments’ Ozone Season Summary. The data was presented on September 24 by COG staff to the Metropolitan Washington Air Quality Committee (MWAQC).

Regional hunger report reveals widespread need, sparks local action

At the October meeting of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) Board of Directors, officials from across the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia heard findings from the Capital Area Food Bank’s (CAFB) latest Hunger Report. The report, presented by CAFB’s Hilary Salmon and Sabrina Tadele, revealed that one in three residents in the region is food insecure, meaning they are uncertain where their next meal will come from.

DMVMoves tour provides officials a behind-the-scenes look at the region's transit network

Monday, September 22, is celebrated globally as World Car Free Day, which also coincided with the DMVMoves Transit Tour. More than 50 public and private sector leaders from across the region met in Alexandria, Virginia to start the day touring Metro's Integrated Command and Communications Center. During the tour, Metro staff explained the importance of collaboration in an operational environment to communicate and execute daily service delivery.
