Stuart Freudberg, a recognized regional leader on the environment, homeland security, and other key issues, has been named Deputy Executive Director of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments by Executive Director Chuck Bean. Freudberg, a 34-year veteran of the nonprofit association of D.C area governments, will oversee various COG departments and offices, including environmental programs, public safety and health, homeland security, finance, and contracts and purchasing.

At its meeting today, the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) was briefed on the new federal Enhanced Mobility program, which provides funding for accessible transportation projects across the region. “With this money, we’re going to provide more access and mobility to people with disabilities and older adults,” TPB Chairman and College Park City Councilman Patrick Wojahn remarked of the federal grant, formally known as the Section 5310 Enhanced Mobility Program.
