COG Video Series: Collaboration in Action

Introducing Collaboration in Action, COG's video series hosted by Executive Director Clark Mercer. The series spotlights COG's work with member jurisdictions and private, nonprofit, and civic organizations on a wide variety of programs and initiatives that improve the quality of life for everyone in our DMV region. Come along as Clark takes you behind the scenes of several of our initiatives, spreading the word about the value of regional partnership and highlighting the leaders and experts in our network that are making a positive impact in our communities.

COG Podcast
Prior to Collaboration in Action, COG produced a podcast, Think Regionally, to raise awareness about metropolitan Washington's biggest challenges and focus on solutions. The podcast, which was hosted by former Washington Post columnist Robert McCartney, featured local government, business, and non-profit leaders talking about a variety of timely topics, including the region's economy, racial equity, transportation, housing, and climate change.

In 2017, fewer people traveled out of the Washington-Baltimore region’s airports for vacation, compared to 2015. And, more people are getting to the region’s airports using ride-hailing companies like Uber and Lyft when compared to 2015.

Sidewalks, crosswalks, and trails are among the small projects eligible to receive funding through a federal grant program that is currently accepting applications for DC and will soon be open for applications from localities in Maryland and Virginia.

Fatal crashes on our region’s roadways have increased each year since 2015, a disturbing turnaround from the dramatic decline in annual fatalities between 2005 and 2013. Several times each week local media publishes disturbing reports about fatal crashes on our roadways. It is no coincidence that roadway safety has been on the TPB’s agenda more often recently.

At its March meeting the TPB approved its budget and work program for the year. The board also received the first quarterly briefing on road safety in the region. And got an update on discussions about bringing housing and jobs closer together, one of the Visualize 2045 aspirational initiatives that was taken up by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments’ (COG) Planning Directors Technical Committee.
