The Securing the Cities (STC) Program is a five-year program funded through the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) with a $30 million grant via the District of Columbia Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (DC HSEMA). The program is currently operating in 3 metropolitan areas: New York, Los Angeles, and the National Capital Region.
Through this program, COG will be purchasing equipment to enhance the region’s ability to detect radiological materials. The NCR STC program has partnerships with 25 agencies (police, sheriffs, fire departments, maritime police units, Hazmat units, civil support teams, first responders, etc.) throughout the region. The program provides radiological nuclear detection (RND) equipment typically used in preventative missions. Additionally, it provides personnel with training and has MOUs and Addendums with DC HSEMA to pay agencies for overtime and backfill so partner agencies' units are not burdened with the cost.
