Homeland Security & Public Safety

Area correctional departments, responsible for both incarceration and rehabilitation, play an important role in keeping local communities safe. At COG, corrections officials work together on a number of issues, including addressing gangs, preparing for natural or man-made disasters, and coordinating health care and mental health services to jail populations.

COG also continues to organize the Annual Corrections Memorial Wreath Laying Ceremony to honor slain corrections officers and recognize the work and dedication of all correctional employees locally and across the nation. The ceremony is held each year, in May, during National Correctional Employees Week, in conjunction with the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.
