"Post Traumatic Stress Mitigation and Alleviation -

Movements in Theory and Practice"

Theme:  This year's Theme is - "Not Quickly Broken: Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) Mitigation and Alleviation - Movements in Theory and Practice." - This year, we will again engage DOD and Interagency Chaplains to strengthen our partnerships.  Invited panelists will be drawn from academic and therapeutic fields. 

Doors Open:  Doors will open at 7:30 AM and Conference will begin promptly at 8:00 AM.

Morning Session:  The morning session will discuss PTS theory.  Presenters for the AM Session include Dr. William Nash, Ed. "Combat Stress Injury:  Theory, Research, and Management"; Dr. Jonathan Shay, Author "Achilles in Vietnam" and "Odysseus in America"; and Dr. Charles Hoge, Author "Once a Warrior Always a Warrior: Navigating the Transition from Combat to Home".

Afternoon Session:  The afternoon session will involve the care of Wounded Warriors.  Presenters for the Afternoon Session include Chaplain David Oravec, US Navy, Casualty Affairs Chaplain, National Naval Medical Center (NNMC); Chaplain Gordon Ritchie, US Navy, US Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment Chaplain; Chaplain Kim Donahue, US Navy, National Intrepid Center of Excellence, NNMC; and Chaplain Randall Bowen, DeWitt Hospital, Ft. Belvoir and former Chaplain for the Warrior Transition  Unit at Walter Reed Army Medical Cener.

Academic to Practical:  This IACC intends to lead participants from academic to practical treatments of Post Traumatic Stress as well as transition from clinical insights to the best practices of religious support.

Benefit:  This training is designed to benefit those who serve as Chaplains and Providers of Religious Support to Police, Fire, EMS and Federal Agencies throughout the NCR.

Attendance:  Approximately 180 chaplains are expected to attend, representing DOD, Federal, State, and Local Agencies (including DC Police and Fire Department Chaplains), as well as hospital chaplains from across the region. 

Lunch:  Lunch will be provided by JFHQ and will be held at the Ft. McNair Officers Club, Bldg. #60.   For lunch, please come prepared for a brief walk to the Officers Club.  Consideration should be paid to weather requirements, e.g. rain, etc.

Auditorium Restrictions:  No food or beverages will be allowed in the ICAF Auditorium.
