Energy Contingency Planning

Contingency planning is an essential element of energy resources preparedness. Currently, there are contingency planning for electricity, natural gas, and petroleum.

In November 2000, COG staff organized an Energy Preparedness Forum with key regional energy representatives to review the 5 energy and emergency management coordination mechanisms that are currently in-place for the region. A major planning assumption of the energy annex is that the Tri-State Energy Coordination Agreement forms the basis for coordinating and consultation for all local units of general-purpose governments. As a result of September 11, 2001, much of this planning and coordination has been incorporated into the region's regional emergency response planning process.
