Green BuildingChesapeake Bay Foundation Tour - Heating, Ventilation, and Cooling System The building takes advantage of natural daylight and natural ventilation, which is controlled through power windows. The powered heating and ventilation system achieves a 33% reduction in energy consumption through the use of geo-thermal exchange piping, which routes coolant through vertical wells to make use of the constant 55 degree ground temperature. Photovoltaic cells on the building’s exterior generate one percent of the structure’s electricity. Indoor air monitors keep track of air quality problems. Click on image for larger view.
