COG is working with local governments and collaborating with state and federal governments from around the region to provide up-to-date information on stormwater management programs in our region.

STORMWATER MANAGEMENT

A CHALLENGE FOR OUR REGION
STORMWATER

The management of stormwater is emerging as one of the most complex environmental challenges for local governments today. Local governments must adapt to changing federal and state regulations that are imposing new requirements for new growth areas and re-development of existing land. They must do more to reduce the nutrients and sediment that flow in urban runoff into local streams and rivers and, ultimately, the Chesapeake Bay as reflected in new stormwater permit provisions. And they must determine how to pay for increased responsibilities in difficult financial circumstances.
