Alexandria and Dale City get their water from the Virginia-American Water Company, a private water distribution agency, which purchases water from Fairfax Water (FW). Fairfax Water takes its water out of its Occoquan Reservoir on the Occoquan River and out of the Potomac River at an intake near Great Falls, VA. A small percentage of FW's water also comes from wells or is purchased from other jurisdictions. FW has four water treatment plants. Most of Alexandria's water comes from the Corbalis Treatment Plant on the Potomac, which can treat up to 150 million gallons per day. Nearly all of Dale City's water comes from the Occoquan/Lorton treatment plants on the Occoquan River, which have a combined capacity of 112 mgd. Read Virginia-American's Consumer Confidence Report on the company's website.
