Much of Frederick County gets its water from the Frederick County Division of Utilities and Solid Waste Management (DUSWM). The DUSWM serves unincorporated areas and those not served by individual wells. The DUSWM draws water from the Potomac River and from Lake Linganore. Frederick County Division of Utilities and Solid Waste Management has two water treatment plants. The New Design Water Treatment Plant on the Potomac can treat 6.6 mgd and serves southern and southeastern parts of the county. The Lake Linganore Water Treatment Plant can treat 2 mgd and serves eastern Frederick County. Please refer to a copy of the county's water quality report .
