The unincorporated areas (excluding City of Manassas, City of Manassas Park, Town of Quantico, and Dale City) of Prince William County get their water from the Prince William County Service Authority (PWCSA), a public water distribution agency, which purchases water from the Fairfax County Water Authority (FCWA) and from the City of Manassas Department of Utilities. A small percentage of PWCSA's water is drawn from wells. FCWA takes its water out of their Occoquan Reservoir on the Occoquan River and out of the Potomac at an intake above Great Falls. A small percentage of FCWA's water also comes from wells or is purchased from other jurisdictions. The City of Manassas DU gets its water from Lake Manassas. Most of the water supplied to PWCSA comes from FCWA's Occoquan treatment facilities, which can treat up to 112 mgd, or from the City of Manassas Treatment Plant, which can treat 12 mgd.
