Vienna gets its water from the Vienna Department of Public Works, which purchases about 80% of its water from the City of Falls Church Public Utilities Division. The town also purchases about 19% of its water from the Fairfax County Water Authority (FCWA) and draws the rest from wells. Falls Church purchases water from the Washington Aqueduct Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (WAD). WAD gets its water from the Potomac River through intakes at Great Falls and Little Falls, and FCWA gets water from both the Potomac and Occoquan rivers. WAD has two water treatment plants, the McMillan and Dalecarlia plants; generally, Vienna receives its water from the Dalecarlia plant, which has a capacity of 240 mgd. Water purchased from FCWA comes mostly from the Occoquan treatment facilities, which have the capacity to treat up to 112 mgd.
