Public Safety Programs

The public safety program seeks to advance the broader understanding of regional public safety issues and help meet the public safety needs of member local governments and their residents.

Examples of programs areas are regional emergency plans and agreements; crime control and anti-terrorism programs; traffic safety campaigns; emergency communications systems; fire safety campaigns; police and fire statistical reports; training programs for police, fire, and corrections personnel; regional competitions and award programs; and symposiums on topics of special interests such as hate crimes, graffiti reduction and judicial interest in drug sentencing, domestic violence, and child abuse.

Public Safety Policy Committee
This Committee comprises elected officials and public safety directors and managers. It provides policy direction to committees; reviews and approves committee reports; develops policies directed to the Board of Directors for approval and resolution; shares information on common public safety concerns on behalf of local governments; and serves as a forum for debate on public safety issues. Presently, there are four public safety technical committees, composed of senior-level agency staff:

  1. Police Chiefs Committee
  2. Fire Chiefs Committee
  3. Disaster and Emergency Preparedness Committee
  4. Corrections Chiefs Committee

Subcommittees that provide further technical expertise in law enforcement, fire protection, corrections, and emergency and disaster management are subordinate to the above technical committees.
