Facts About Disability

In the Washington Region:

• 320,000 people or 8% of the population have a physical or sensory disability
• The unemployment rate for disabled persons is 9%, twice the general unemployment rate of 4%
• Two-thirds of disabled adults are not even in the labor force
• Disabled persons are twice as likely to live in poverty, compared to the general population (13% vs. 7%)
