TLC Clearinghouse
What is the TLC Clearinghouse?
The TLC Clearinghouse is an information resource for government agencies, community groups, and individuals working on connections between transportation and land use in the Washington region. The Clearinghouse is part of the Transportation and Land-Use Connections Program (TLC) initiated in the fall of 2006 by the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB).
Why is TLC Important?
The TLC program is intended to address issues of regional congestion, future growth and change in regional demographics, housing affordability, safe mobility options, and the creation of vibrant communities in the Washington region. The TLC program provides resources and a sustainable approach to meeting future regional needs for growth and transportation.
What Makes TLC Unique?
The TLC makes connections between land use and transportation at a range of scales, from regional planning to the implementation of individual development and transportation projects. Opportunities to create connections between transportation and land use planning are present at the scale of individual cities and counties, and along key regional transportation corridors. TLC involves stakeholders in decision-making to ensure transportation and land use planning responds to the needs of local communities while recognizing regional needs and opportunities. TLC encourages partnerships among government agencies, citizens, businesses, and developers.
Why Have A Clearinghouse?
Making connections between transportation and land use is difficult, and there is no single solution to successfully crafting plans or implementing transportation and development projects. The success of the TLC program depends on sharing the strategies and techniques that have been used locally and nationally to achieve positive outcomes. This Clearinghouse provides resources and background information on different components the TLC program is designed to address. It includes examples of successful strategies and techniques developed locally and in other communities around the country to better link transportation and land use. These resources are intended to aid decision-making for communities today and into the future.
What is in the Clearinghouse?
The Clearinghouse has three sections:
- The Clearinghouse Issue Areas explain the different ways Transportation and Land-Use Connections can positively impact transportation and development in the region and highlights national examples
- An annotated list of national organizations working on transportation and land-use coordination provides links to additional resources
- A database provides a growing list of Washington region efforts
- NEW! Housing + Transportation Affordability Toolkit - an information resource that examines the costs of housing and transportation throughout the region.
