How the TPB Vision Took Shape
1989
|
A regional conference on growth and transportation is sponsored by the TPB and COG.
|
1990
|
The Task Force on Growth and Transportation is formed as an outcome of the regional growth and transportation conference.
|
1991
|
The Task Force on Growth and Transportation releases its report, "A Legacy of Excellence for the Washington Region."
|
1992
|
The Task Force on Growth and Transportation is expanced to form the 200-member Partnership for Regional Excellence.

1993
|
The Partnership for Regional Excellence Recommends regional agreements on land use, transportation, and the environment.

1994
|
The TPB adopts its first Financially Constrained Long-Range Transportation Plan (CLRP) under the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA) of 1991. The CLRP identifies limited funding as a key issue.
The TPB embarks upon a vision planning process to engage citizens and elected officials in a discussion on the region's long-term transportation future guided by the recommendations of the Partnership for Regional Excellence.

|
The TPB Launches an ambitious outreach campaign called GETTING THERE. Focus groups, brainstorming sessions, and public opinion surveys are conducted throughout the region.
Three citizen task forces - focusing on quality of life, access to opportunities, and economic prosperity - develop three different alternatives for the development of the region's transportation system.

|
The TPB forms a Vision Planning Steering Committee to draft a consensus vision.

1997
|
The TPB approves the 1997 triennial update of the CLRP, which reaffirms that limited transportation funding is a major long-term challenge for the region.

1998
|
The TB unanimously adopts the Vision in October 1998.
