WASHINGTON, D.C. – During its December meeting, members of the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) voted unanimously to elect its officers for 2015.

District of Columbia Council Chairman Phil Mendelson will serve as TPB Chairman. Alexandria City Councilman Timothy Lovain and Rockville Mayor Bridget Donnell Newton will serve as Vice Chairs of the TPB, which is responsible for ensuring state and federal approval of funding for highways, transit, bicycle, pedestrian, and other transportation projects.

Mendelson, who has served as TPB Chairman in the past, is serving this year as Chairman of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) Board of Directors. Lovain has served as Vice Chairman of the TPB and has led the TPB's Human Services Transportation Coordination Task Force. Rockville Mayor Newton currently serves as a member of the COG Board of Directors.

The Transportation Planning Board at COG is the regional transportation planning organization for the Washington region, responsible for developing the multi-modal regional long range transportation plan.  It includes local governments, state transportation agencies, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), and members of the Maryland and Virginia General Assemblies.
