The National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) approved its 2025 slate of officers at the December 18 meeting, electing Fairfax County Supervisor James Walkinshaw to serve as TPB Chair. Walkinshaw has served on the TPB and the COG Board of Directors since 2020. In 2024, Walkinshaw served as TPB Vice Chair and Chair of the TPB’s Access for All Advisory Committee, which advises the TPB on transportation programs, policies, and services important to traditionally underserved communities. Other COG roles include serving as a member of the Chesapeake Bay & Water Resources Policy Committee and Region Forward Coalition.

“I’m honored to be elected to serve as chair of the Transportation Planning Board in 2025, particularly as the board works to finalize Visualize 2050, the region’s federally required transportation plan. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the board and the TPB staff as we ensure this plan, and our other work, move us toward our goals and improve our region's multimodal transportation network,” said Walkinshaw.

Walkinshaw will be joined by City of Gaithersburg Councilmember Neil Harris and District of Columbia Councilmember Matthew Frumin, who were elected to serve as Vice Chairs for the TPB. TPB officers serve one-year terms that begin on January 1.
