The series spotlights COG's work with member jurisdictions and private, nonprofit, and civic organizations on a wide variety of programs and initiatives that improve the quality of life for everyone in our DMV region. Come along as Clark takes you behind the scenes of several of our initiatives, spreading the word about the value of regional partnership and highlighting the leaders and experts in our network that are making a positive impact in our communities.

COG Podcast

Prior to Collaboration in Action, COG produced a podcast, Think Regionally, to raise awareness about metropolitan Washington's biggest challenges and focus on solutions. The podcast, which was hosted by former Washington Post columnist Robert McCartney, featured local government, business, and non-profit leaders talking about a variety of timely topics, including the region's economy, racial equity, transportation, housing, and climate change.

    In-Depth Surveys Provide New Understanding of Neighborhood-Level Travel Patterns in Region

    In-depth surveys of household travel behavior conducted by the Transportation Planning Board in ten strategically-chosen areas around the Washington region will help planners and local officials better understand neighborhood-level travel patterns in ways that no other existing survey can. The results will inform efforts by local jurisdictions to plan for future growth and to identify strategies for meeting future transportation needs.

    COG hosted a workshop on planning for the local impacts of climate change on May 21. It focused on water, land use, and transportation planning implications of potential changes in precipitation patterns, sea level rise, flooding, and water quality in metropolitan Washington.

    Commuters swapped gas pedals for bike pedals in the metropolitan Washington region today, as 12,700 cycled to work for the annual Bike to Work Day event. More people than ever before participated in this year’s event which promotes bicycling as a healthy, low cost commute alternative.
