These local events will feature information about America Recycles Day.

City of Alexandria

  • October 20: Regional Reuse Roundup. Cora Kelly School for Math, Science and Technology 3600 Commonwealth, Alexandria VA 22305 9 a.m.-2 p.m. For more information visit www.alexrecycles.org, or contact 703/519-3486 ext. 132.

District of Columbia

  • October 27: HHW and E-Cycling Day 9 am to 3 pm at the Benning Road Trash Transfer Station, 3200 Benning Road, NE.
  • November 5 to November 16, in search of the “Perfect Set Out.” A gift package, including a $50 check, will be given to one resident in each ward who sets out a recycling bin containing acceptable recycled materials in the proper manner. Winners will be announced the week of November 26th to recognize America Recycles Day, which will be celebrated nationally on November 15, 2007.

Fairfax County

Montgomery County

  • November 17: Celebrate America Recycles Day with the Division of Solid Waste Services! This is a day to raise awareness about the importance of recycling and buying products made with recycled materials. Multiple activities and exhibits including, Grasscycling and Backyard Composting, Waste Reduction Techniques, Unique Materials to Recycle in Montgomery County, Compost Bin Distribution and Leafgro Promotion, and Special appearances throughout the day by Rocco, the Recycling Retriever! Prince George's County

  • Shredding and Electronics Recycling Event on Sunday, November 4, 2007, Prince George's Stadium (Bowie Bay Sox), Bowie 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.
  • November 15: Prince George's County Grand Re-opening of the Materials Recovery Facility and its transition to Single Stream Recycling in the curbside program. In Capitol Heights, Maryland. For information call 301-883-5841.
  • Shredding and Electronics Recycling Event on Sunday, November 18, 2007, Drew Freeman Middle School, 2600 Brooks Drive, Suitland 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Prince William County

  • November 3: Prince William County Recycles Day. A day of education and entertainment for the whole family. Come to the County landfill to learn about the value of recycling and of buying recycled products. The event will also include free food, prizes, giveaways, a recycled art contest, a clown, DJ with today's best music, landfill tours, and much more! For details call 703-792-4670.
