These local events will feature information about America Recycles Day.

Fairfax County

• October 24 (10 a.m. - 4 p.m.): America Recycles Day, Recycling Roadshow (PDF), 700 Bennett Street, Herndon, VA 20170. Materials accepted: bicycles ($10 donation requested to cover shipping fees), cell phones, clothing, compact fluorescent bulbs, computers and peripherals, eyeglasses, gently worn shoes, clean/working microwaves, rechargeable batteries (no automobile batteries), clean bedlinens and towels, personal documents for secure shredding (maximum of 5 medium-sized boxes per household), televisions, window a/c units, working sewing machines).  America Recycles Day Pledge Card/Contest Entry Form (PDF)
  

Montgomery County

• Paper Shredding/Recycling and Donation Drop-Off (Montgomery County residents only). Shred and recycle your personal papers and donate usable clothing and household goods on the following dates and times at these locations: 

  • Saturday, November 14, 2009 (10:00 am to 2:00 pm) - Upcounty Regional Services Center (12900 Middlebrook Road, Germantown, MD 20874)
  • Saturday, November 14, 2009 (10:00 am to 2:00 pm) - Eastern Montgomery Regional Services Center (3300 Briggs Chaney Road, Silver Spring, MD 20904)
  • Sunday, November 15, 2009 (8:00 am to 12:00 pm) - John F. Kennedy High School (1901 Randolph Road, Silver Spring, MD 20902)
  • Sunday, November 15, 2009 (1:00 pm to 5:00 pm) - Walt Whitman High School (7100 Whittier Blvd., Bethesda, MD 20817)

  County residents can bring up to 5 paper bags or small cardboard boxes of paper for shredding.  All materials for donation should be in good working/usable condition and includes items such as clothing, shoes, bed/bath items, books, CDs, DVDs, tables, chairs, lamps, exercise/sporting equipment, garden tools, stuffed animals, glassware, picture frames, and more.  For more information, visit www.montgomerycountymd.gov/recycling or call 240-777-6410.

Prince George's County

• October 31: Ecycling and Shredding Event on October 31, 2009, at Henry Wise High School in Upper Marlboro, between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
• November 7: Joint event with WSSC and DER at our Western Branch Facilities for tours of each on November 7, 2009 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
• November 14: Ecycling & Shredding Event at High Point High School on November 14 between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Prince William County

• October 24 (10-2): Prince William County Recycles Day will be held Saturday, October 24, from 10am to 2pm at the Prince William County Landfill.  The event will include information and products to make your home more green and will also include free hotdogs, drinks, games/prizes, landfill tours, compost bins ($20 each, supplies are limited), and free paper shredding (up to 4 boxes).  The landfill is located at 14811 Dumfries Rd., near Independent Hill.  For more information call the Solid Waste Division at (703) 792-4670.
