| Transportation Planning Board Announces
New Regional Traveler Information Web Page
The National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) at the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) today introduced a new traveler information page on the COG Web site. Users should visit www.mwcog.org/traveler.
"This new Web page provides one-stop shopping for a variety of traveler information Web sites and phone numbers of the Washington region's transportation agencies," said David Snyder, Falls Church council member and chair of the TPB Management, Operations and Intelligent Transportation System (MOITS) Policy Task Force.
The new COG/TPB Web page provides phone numbers and links to Web sites of agencies such as the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia Departments of Transportation, and the Virginia Railway Express. The new page is one of several initiatives spearheaded by the Task Force to address regional traveler information systems planning. These initiatives come in the wake of the anticipated end of the Westwood One Company's "SmarTraveler" regional traveler information Web site and telephone service on December 19, 2002.
Other Task Force initiatives include creation of a new technical subcommittee to address traveler information; a new multi-year effort to develop a regional interagency data integration system; and, with the District of Columbia Department of Transportation, a six-month study to determine how a regional "511" abbreviated dialing telephone traveler information service could be funded and provided in the Washington region.
