Linking Housing and Transportation Costs

Transportation costs are the second largest expense after mortgage or rent costs for many households. Living near and using public transit - rather than your car - to commute each day can help you save a significant amount of money on travel expenses and the upkeep of your personal vehicle. To put it simply, you can reduce, or even eliminate, the expense of owning and maintaining a vehicle by using public transportation.

Extra Benefits of Riding Public Transit

Borrowers under the Smart CommuteTM Initiative will receive a 50 percent discount for six months on Metrobus or Metrorail service for up to two people per household. Reduced transit fare for a limited time may also be available from other participating transit organizations.
