The annual Bike to Work Day is celebrating 25 years of healthy and happy biking in the metropolitan Washington region! Registration for this free event on Friday, May 15, 2026 is now open to commuters in the District, Suburban Maryland, and Northern Virginia.
Organized by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments’ (COG) Commuter Connections program and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA), Bike to Work Day is a chance to feel the freedom and invigoration of pedaling to the office. Register today for the popular spring tradition that encourages commuters to try bicycling to work as a more affordable and greener way to work.
Participants have 100 “pit stop” stations to choose from on their commute to the office. Visit biketoworkmetrodc.org to find your nearest pit stop location and event hours. The first 18,000 who register and attend a pit stop will receive a free commemorative purple Bike to Work Day T-shirt and bike raffle entry. Many pit stops will provide free giveaways, snacks, beverages, and other entertainment.
Not an experienced bicyclist? No problem! Beginners are encouraged to participate as Bike to Work Day is a great opportunity to try bicycling to work for the first time. Bike solo or with a partner for a fun and rewarding experience. Free bicycle convoys will also be available along certain routes, led by experienced volunteer bicycle commuters.
Register at biketoworkmetrodc.org or by calling (800) 745-7433 to secure your spot! Follow Commuter Connections on X @BikeToWorkDay and Facebook @BikeToWorkDayMetroDC and use #BTWD2026.
