There are lots of exciting development and redevelopment projects in the planning stage in the region:

In D.C. officials will soon unveil plans for redeveloping the 62-acre Walter Reed site into a residential office and entertainment hub with lots of open space. Montgomery County planners and developers are discussing whether the county’s proposed “Science City” will turn Montgomery County into the next Silicon Valley or Research Triangle.

Meanwhile Arlington County recently approved a dramatic transformation of Crystal City from mainly office towers into a mixed-use center. In Prince George’s County the area around the New Carrollton Metro station is set to be converted into a walkable community. Lastly the ongoing redevelopment of Silver Spring including a new multi-modal transit center is “urban planning at its best” say officials.

With Fairfax County’s sweeping plan to urbanize Tysons Corner also in mind the next few years could prove to fundamentally transform the region.
