Addressing Surge Capacity Through A New Paradigm
Sponsored by MedStar Health, Inc.
In Memory of John L. Green

Chas Roades, Executive Director of Research for The Advisory Board Company and Susan Stuard, Director of Regulatory Affairs for the Greater New York Hospital Association will be the keynote presenters for this interactive
program.  The speakers will provide examples of innovative practices that hospitals and their health care partners are implementing to maximize hospital capacity and will speak about the challenges of meeting the day-to-day patient care demands and the realities of preparing for bioterrorism and mass casualty events.  Ms. Stuard will also offer an overview of the Hospital Emergency Response Data System (HERDS), an information system created in conjunction with the Greater New York Department of Health to collect real-time data from hospitals for requestors during emergency events.

During the second portion of the program, a panel representing state preparedness, local level coordination, public health, hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, emergency medical services and other sectors will offer its perspectives on surge capacity challenges facing the health care continuum.

Jim Bentley, Senior Vice President for Strategic Policy Planning of the American Hospital Association, has agreed to be our moderator and will raise elements of the program for presenter and participant discussion.  A broad representation of public health, health care and emergency preparedness & response leaders are expected to attend this program for its content and networking opportunities.
