The Co-Occurring Disorders Committee is a subcommittee of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Committee and has been in existence since 1990.  It is composed of mental health and substance abuse management and direct service staff from the public and private sector in the COG region.

The Committee works to accomplish the following:

  1. Promote sufficient and effective treatment services for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
  2. Promote interagency and collegial communication and collaboration among public and private treatment programs and their staff providing these services.
  3. Provide low cost trainings on dual diagnosis topics for professionals providing treatment for individuals with mental health and substance use disorders.

The Co-Occurring Disorders Committee has produced two local community resource guides of dual diagnosis treatment services, a policy report that made recommendations concerning the most effective dual diagnosis treatment services, provided testimony at public hearings concerning the need for dual diagnosis treatment services and its membership has provided consultations to local programs concerning the implementation and improvement of their dual diagnosis services.
