Each participant will gain a working knowledge of the requisite content of a report, style, and grammatical format for official documents and necessary cross reference data for relating victim/witness/suspect statements and evidence to the basic report. Topics include: (1) being able to identify the essential elements of an investigative report to include the Who, What,When, Where, Why and How of an incident under investigation; (2) formating an investigative report so that it reads in a clear, coherent manner and is free from inconsistencies or contradictions; (3) recognizes the appropriate resources available to produce a professional looking and readable report; (4) properly cross-referencing the investigative report to related statements by interested parties and/or evidence; (5) self-editing reports prior to supervisory review; (6) supporting documents needed to clarify or amplify individual points or statements presented in the investigative report.
