so don’t miss out! As a leader in our community, no one knows better than you the importance of the role nonprofits play in disaster response and recovery. Unfortunately, you also know that, as the critical "third leg of the stool," the nonprofit sector is often overlooked or undervalued in key planning activities led by the government and private sectors. The Nonprofit Roundtable of Greater Washington is working to address this vital need. With support from Deloitte, we are leading a project to develop and implement a regional Strategic Plan for Emergency Preparedness in the nonprofit sector. You are invited to participate as we continue this exciting project!
The Event:
Nonprofit organizations in the National Capital Region are invited to improve their emergency preparedness for all hazards at Deloitte’s 2008 IMPACT Day event. This FREE event will be co-hosted with The Nonprofit Roundtable and features a variety of training sessions, so you can find training that is relevant to you, regardless of your current level of preparedness. Training sessions include:
· American Red Cross disaster preparedness
· Continuity of Operations (COOP) planning, including one-on-one support to develop a working COOP plan for your organization, which you will take home with you
· National Incident Management System (NIMS) – attendees for this session will not only complete training, they will take the online test to certify and document their NIMS compliance
All attendees will also have an opportunity to register themselves and their organizations for critical regional emergency communications systems and information and referral databases, as well as a great opportunity to network with their peers from across the region – so don’t miss out!
Who Should Attend:
Executive Directors, Program/Service Delivery Managers and Operations/Information Technology Managers from Greater Washington area nonprofits with a role in disaster response and/or recovery.
When:
June 6, 2008: 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided).

What You'll Get Out of It:
Your participation in this workshop will not only help your agency to be better prepared for any crisis, but it will strengthen your regional nonprofit network through interaction with peer nonprofits who share a role in emergency preparedness. You will also achieve (based on your selected break-out sessions):
· Enhanced personal and organizational preparedness through American Red Cross training;
· Training in the importance and fundamentals of COOP planning for your organization;
· The opportunity to develop a functional COOP plan if you don’t have one, or to discuss your existing plan with our expert resources and refine it;
· Increased understanding of government emergency management systems, including the National Incident Management System (NIMS);
· Certification in the NIMS system, which is a key requirement for certain DHS grant applications and for integration with local emergency management operations;
· Improved emergency communications for your organization via registration with one or more community emergency alert systems;
· Better connection to your fellow nonprofits and your clients via listing (or an update of your current listing) in the National Capital Region’s 2-1-1 website database; and
· A chance to win some great door prizes that will help get you even closer to your goal of total preparedness!
