COG Board Chair Frank Principi said the proposed reduction in funding will “severely affect badly needed capital and safety improvements demanded by the National Transportation Safety Board, the Tri-State Oversight Committee, and WMATA itself.” He went on to warn it also “opens the door to additional federal or state funding cuts during the balance of the ten year authorization.”

In a Washington Post opinion piece, COG Board Chair Frank Principi and Nonprofit Roundtable President Chuck Bean urge Virginia state lawmakers to dedicate funding from the recent National Foreclosure Settlement to foreclosure prevention programs. The D.C. region will receive a combined $136.7 million from the settlement.
