The Transportation Planning Board is scheduled to meet at noon on Wednesday, September 21. The official agenda and all meeting materials will be posted on the Thursday before the meeting. Here is a quick preview of what’s coming up:
New commuting data from the latest State of the Commute survey: Results from the TPB’s extensive triennial survey of commuting behavior are in. Commuter Connections Director Nick Ramfos will brief the board. His presentation will focus on the latest trends in average commute times and distances, commute satisfaction, factors influencing mode choice, and more.
Monthly SafeTrack update: Montgomery County and District of Columbia officials will brief the board on preparations for SafeTrack Surge #10. The surge will shut down the Red Line between Fort Totten and NoMa for a little over three weeks in late October and early November. Metro officials will also update the board on changes the agency is making to the schedule for remaining surges.
Development of the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP): Staff will brief the board on the process for updating the TIP, including a public forum to be held on September 15. The forum is an opportunity for the public to learn about the TIP, how agencies prioritize and fund projects, and some of the key projects included in the latest update. The TPB formally updates the TIP every two years to reflect changing funding priorities in local and state transportation budgets.
New federal performance-based planning and programming requirements: MAP-21 and the more recent FAST Act require metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) to work with states to gather data and set targets on key performance metrics to help guide regional transportation planning and decisionmaking. Targets related to transit asset management must be set by transit agencies by the end of this year, and staff will update the board on the region’s progress in establishing those targets.
