On July 26 members of the Region Forward Coalition met in the Mosaic District where they discussed—and witnessed firsthand— the transformation of Merrifield-Dunn Loring into a vibrant Activity Center. Chairman of the Fairfax County Board Sharon Bulova told the Coalition “ In Fairfax County our future is in redevelopment. As we grow we look for opportunities to build mixed-use walkable transit-oriented development to give people options other than driving alone in their cars to get places.”​

Between now and August 23, stakeholders, advocacy groups, and interested members of the general public are invited to review and comment on the Transportation Planning Board's draft Regional Transportation Priorities Plan, the culmination of a multi-year effort to identify the best strategies for addressing the region's most pressing transportation challenges.

Officials are seeking feedback on the draft Regional Transportation Priorities Plan , a new effort informed by the public to identify strategies that will address metropolitan Washington’s major transportation challenges. On July 24, the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) has released the plan for a 30-day public comment period that will close on Friday, August 23.

Officials discussed the links between water resources and climate and energy issues at the first joint meeting of the two regional policy committees. Fairfax County Vice Chair Penny Gross and Montgomery County Councilmember Roger Berliner, the Chairs of the two committees, stressed the need for their groups to work together to advance mutual goals, such as energy efficiency and water and electric power resiliency.

Nine local jurisdictions in the Washington region will receive technical assistance under the Transportation Planning Board's Transportation/Land-Use Connections Program for projects that strive to enable transportation systems and development patterns to support one another more effectively. The TLC Program has, over the years, provided technical assistance for projects that explore everything from ways to promote transit-oriented development to making roadways safer for cyclists and pedestrian​
