Regional Leaders Discuss Emergency Plans

Sep 14, 2005

During today's monthly COG Board meeting, Montgomery County Executive Doug Duncan, Prince George's County Executive Jack Johnson, Fairfax County Chairman Gerry Connolly, D.C. Council Member Carol Schwartz, COG Chair J Davis and other regional leaders gathered together to discuss area emergency plans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

In a conference call last week, Duncan and other area officials agreed to ask COG to help the region’s local governments, the State of Maryland, the Commonwealth of Virginia and key federal agencies re-evaluate the emergency coordination plans adopted since the 2001 terrorist attacks.

COG led its member governments in creating the Regional Emergency Coordination Plan (RECP) after the terrorist attacks on New York City and the Pentagon.

COG will work with area city and county managers as well as emergency management officials to re-examine the current plans and recommend necessary improvements.
