Region Forward was developed over a year-and-a-half by a group of public, private, and civic leaders focused on challenges like population growth, climate change, traffic congestion, and disparities in public safety, health, and education.
When launching the vision in 2010, COG recognized its success would be dependent on a broad base of support across the region. Each of COG’s local government members endorsed Region Forward by adopting a voluntary compact—which is included in the original vision document—and pledging to make their best efforts to advance its goals. Several other nonprofits, civic groups, and regional organizations have incorporated Region Forward into their own planning efforts.
Today, COG’s Region Forward Coalition is leading the effort to turn the vision's big goals into better communities. The coalition includes representatives from 22 member jurisdictions as well as the following partner organizations:
