TPB accepting applications for the Transportation Land-Use Connections and Regional Roadway Safety programs

Local jurisdictions in the National Capital Region are encouraged to apply for one of the Transportation Planning Board’s local technical assistance programs.

The FY 2024 application period is open for the Transportation Land-Use Connections (TLC) Program and the Regional Roadway Safety (RRSP) Program. This year, applicants have the opportunity to submit one application for either program.

The programs offer short-term consultant services, and the selected project will receive between $30,000 and $80,000 in assistance for planning or design.

Application period: January 6 - March 3, 2023
Abstracts (optional) due: January 24, 2023
Applications due: March 3, 2023
Project selection and approval: April - May 2023
Project period of completion: Fall 2023 - June 2024 (6-8 months)

About the programs

Transportation Land-Use Connections provides short-term consultant services to local jurisdictions for small planning projects to promote mixed-use and walkable communities. Example planning activities include:

  • Small area and transit station area planning
  • Bicycle and pedestrian safety and access studies
  • Streetscape improvement plans
  • Trail planning and design

Regional Roadway Safety provides short-term consultant services for small planning and preliminary engineering that support safety efforts. Example activities include:

  • Support of local roadway safety plans
  • Bicycle and pedestrian safety
  • Crash data analysis
  • Road diet design
  • Lighting and signage improvements
